Arkansas Spiders
Most spiders are harmless hunters. Two of the ones Arkansans worry about most actually live here.
Brown recluse and black widow spiders are both established in Arkansas, but the wolf spiders, cellar spiders, and orb weavers found in garages and porches are far more common. Spiders follow the insects they eat, so reducing insect pressure around lights, doors, and clutter is usually the long-term fix.
- Black Widow
Black widows favor sheltered outdoor corners more than busy living spaces. Around Arkansas homes, a web near stored equipment, a crawlspace opening, or a quiet garage corner deserves a careful look without reaching into it.
- Brown Recluse
Brown recluse spiders occur in Arkansas, but many harmless spiders are mistaken for them. Identification needs more than a brown body or a violin-like mark. Storage habits, monitoring, and a careful inspection matter more than treating every visible spider as dangerous.
